Blog Post Number 4

Well, everyone – welcome to my fourth and final blog post! It's been a long journey, but I am honestly so proud of myself for sticking with it. If I hadn't done this for a project, I already know I would have given up on my running goal a LONG time ago. I really do think I have increased my endurance over the course of this month – I am able to run for longer, and definitely don't hold as much hate for running as I did prior to this experience. After a run I would feel so accomplished and refreshed, and I really want to continue to push myself to keep improving. I will admit that I didn't end up running 5km straight, without any breaks; however, I did cut my time to 5km in 31 minutes, which is slow, but much better than I thought I would be able to do! Look at me go! I'm so speedy! The whole idea of a genius hour project is to have the time to explore an idea or act that you wouldn't normally – I thought this was a really beneficial way to go about...

Hey everyone! Thanks for checking back in! So, this week I felt that school was really starting to pick up; however, I still managed to dedicate time to the gym and my genius hour project. I wanted to take some time in this post to connect back to some ideas and goals I set out for myself in my first post, instead of just summarizing my runs this week. I am starting week 3 of my running chart, and this week I feel may be a struggle for me – the runs this week are starting to get much longer, and it’s a bit of a jump from what I’m used to. This past week I’ve been able to run for 5 minutes and walk for 1 minute, with some difficulty, I must admit. However, this week I’m a little nervous because now the intervals of running are getting longer – I’m talking 10-15 minutes of straight running, AHH! Considering how winded I am still getting at the 5-minute mark, this makes me a little nervous. I also want to take this time to reflect on some of the research I did when looking in...

Hi everyone! Thanks for checking back in. I have decided against doing daily updates on every single training day, as it will probably get a little boring and repetitive for you all. Instead, I'm going to hit on any high/lowlights that have happened in my week regarding my genius hour project. I've been stuck at running 3 minutes, walking 1 minute for 5 sets for a few days now – pushing myself to 4 and 5 minutes will be very difficult I'm sure. I recently have been sick for the past few days so this has put a bit of a damper on the whole running thing. Although I've been dragging myself to the gym, I haven't felt like running at all so I've really only been doing strengthening workouts for arms and abs. This is better than nothing, but not in any way helping my endurance! Today I ran 3 minutes and walked for 1 minute, as I have been doing for the past couple training days. Above is a picture that summarizes my run! **** After discussing genius p...

Hey guys!  So I’m really excited for this whole genius hour project because I’m hoping it will force me into actually achieving the goals I have set out. I have never been much of a runner, but it is a skill I have always admired  – people who can not only run far distances, but also find enjoyment and meditation in doing so inspire me to improve my personal running endurance, or lack thereof. My friend started training for races and ToughMudders about a year ago as a way to improve her mental health, and she has really inspired me to try running out as well. She personally finds it as a form of meditation, as it helps her clear her mind and daily anxieties. However, I am the type of person to always I want to start running, and then 4 minutes in and the first sign of a cramp, I call it quits.              My goal for this project is to train to be able to run 5km straight at the end of the 4...

Welcome To My Life

Hey Guys! Welcome to my blog! I've never blogged before so you're in for a treat! My name is Madeleine Campbell. I'm a first year Teacher Candidate at Brock University and am very excited to start my journey as a teacher! I did my undergrad at Western University, studying Studio Arts and English Language and Literature. I absolutely loved my time at Western, the people I met and clubs I got involved in, but I'm very excited to start here in St. Catharines - change is good! To get to know me better, my All About Me page has some of my passions, which I'm sure you guys are all dying to check out!  I really love dance, and I've been super nostalgic about it recently. I used to dance back in high school but haven't really had time (maybe an excuse I tell myself) since university. So watching videos of talented dancers is what I've really been into recently. NBC's World of Dance is amazing; the dancers are CRAZY talented and I am actually mesmer...
